Due to a whole bunch of reasons, National Poetry Month, “Renegades” deadline, tax season, spring fever, etc…, we’ve decided to extend the contest deadline to June 30th to give you more time to polish your words of wisdom. Apologies to those who submitted in 2009. I know, it is difficult to wait. The contest will be judged over the summer and the winner will appear in the Fall/Winter issue. Good luck to all!
Vallum is excited about National Poetry Month! In April, two talented poets and educators, Sandra Erickson and John Kerkhoven, will be holding Vallum poetry workshops in Montreal schools. Students will benefit from and enjoy these fun and educational workshops.
Educator/poet, Ilona Martonfi, hosted a workshop sponsored by Vallum at the McGill Institute for Retirement Learning in February. We look forward to poet Larissa Andrushysyn participating again in the Vallum Hallowe’en workshops at St. Lawrence Academy Junior elementary school in October 2010. Larissa impressed young minds with Hallowe’en Haiku experiments in 2009.
Vallum would like to congratulate Möe Clark, Westmount High’s first poet in Residence, and Jack Locke, of The Poetry Foundation, for organizing the whole affair, and for producing the wonderful anthology, Leonard Cohen: You’re Our Man, in honour of Leonard Cohen’s 75th birthday. And, good luck with changing those lines of the National Anthem Jack!
