“The faculty of Mind, generally speaking, does no work by itself, whereas Reason and Will, like Imagination and Sensuality, are faculties that do. All these four faculties are held and embraced by the mind….The two major faculties, reason and will, work on their own in all spiritual matters without the help of the other minor faculties. These latter (imagination and sensuality) work in all forms of animal and physical life, whether reason and will are present or not. But by them alone, without the assistance of reason and will, a soul would never come to know the other qualities of physical creation, nor the reason for their existence, and why they do the things they do. It is for this reason that we call reason and will major faculties, because they function entirely spiritually quite independently of material things.”
